RSSierra's Dinky Additions

Postby RSSierra » Wed Apr 15, 2015 7:24 am

I thought I would start cataloguing my ever expanding Dinky Collection here. Unfortunately I do not limit myself to any particular period or type, I don't generally search out boxed examples but will buy them if the price is right. I have also started to collect the various Atlas Edition models that I like from both the English and French collections.

I will document models as they arrive, the back catalogue of acquisitions to date, mostly Dinky but with a few Corgi and other makes, can be found at the link at the bottom of this first post.

An eventful week for my collection.

We had our twice yearly swapmeet here in Auckland and I picked up the following:

Mercedes Benz 230SL

Ferrari P5

Vauxhall Viva

BCC Outdoor Camera

Plus these arrived from overseas:

Guy Flat Truck

Boxed 504 Tanker

885 Boxed Saviem Pipe Truck - box lid is a bit shot. I managed to pick up an excellent box also which is still to arrive.

I also purchased the following boxed elevator loader off our local auction site

I cheekily asked if the seller had any other Dinky's they were prepared to part with, they said they had a few and we set up a time for me to pick up.

Upon arrival I was very surprised to find the following sitting on the table with the loader:

Pre War Set 51 Famous Liners box in reasonable condition.

I knew nothing about this set before seeing it so was amazed to open it and find this

A few too many ships you will notice. The 5 additional larger scale vessels all being Triang.

3 of the original ships, the others have succumbed to fatigue, exploded and been discarded some 40 years ago. So I now have the task of reassembling the fleet.

Lastly also sitting on the table was a 785 Service Station, slightly playworn, complete minus the doors but undamaged

Thanks to my iPad and internet banking they all left with me.

Charming especially the garage - I want one !
-Some of the Atlas models are very well done indeed, especially the latest with opening parts although a few like the Mini Traveller would have been best forgotten forever........ I have 2 so far and will buy a few more when i see them for a price of no more than £10

Thanks for the comments.

Mick, the garage is large at over 33cm long and nearly 13 cm high. Great scale wise for the 50's cars it was designed for.

Jeff, I have repro wing mirrors and rear lantern on their way from modelcarparts to replace the missing items. I'm not sure whether the excellent condition original box which is on its way to me has the inserts or not. If it doesn't they look relatively easy to duplicate so I will have a go.

Cheers

Well David, went into your 'Photobucket' albums and how disappointed I was...there was I expecting to see a few more select Corgi and Dinky and bloody hell, you've got everything in there including many of my favourites like the Corgi 'Ferrymasters' truck, their 'POLICE' Vigilante Range Rover, the Limited issue 'Co Op' commercials set, the Dinky 'ABC' Television vehicles and the Black.......oh I could go on and on, you even have some nice Rolls-Royce and Bentley models in there with a really almost mint Red Silver Shadow that I just had to bring up and post here, hope you don't mind, but it is a fabulous model.

So you see, disappointed you did not warn of the treasures to be found once in your 'Photobucket' albums, took me ages looking at those 104 screens...

You're a keen man Ghosty.......scanning through that lot in one sitting.

Thanks, would you believe I bought my first Dinky from a second hand shop 4 years ago......all the rest, Corgi's and now Budgies are a result of that single purchase. It was a pre war no25 flat bed truck, no grill or headlights. The charm and age of it struck me and I started picking up what I could at a reasonable price.

Then I discovered various models which became grails and I keep knocking them off one by one

Ayup Dave,
You've really have done well mate, didn't realise it was only 4 years! You've got some really lovely stuff now.
Wants lists never get any smaller, at least mine don't, 1 off 2 on is about right.
The French lorries are superb mate, especially the Saviem.
